Training can take a further 6-10 years of postgraduate studies after gaining a basic dental degree which ensures a higher level of expertise in that field. To achieve the highest level of care, specialists often work with specialists from other branches of dentistry when treating patients with complex problems (often referred to as multi-disciplinary or inter-disciplinary care).
